Store-bought Smell-goods Are Not So Good After All...

Air fresheners have become the norm in many American homes and workplaces, advertised to have your space smelling deliciously clean and fragrant like fresh laundry, a brilliant breeze, baked goods or friendly fruits.
Unfortunately, many of the products on the shelves contain hazardous, harmful and toxic chemicals called phthalates. This chemical compound is mainly added to plastics to increase their flexibility, transparency, durability, and longevity, but can have a negative impact on our respiratory health.
There is a simple, effective solution to these so-called “innocent” “all-natural” “unscented” chemicals.
Remove the toxic air fresheners, open the windows to bring in fresh air, and replace the not-so-good smell-goods with your own, two-ingredient air freshener that contains no chemicals. Not only is it lighter on the wallet, it’s very simple and you can rest assured that you’re breathing one less chemical in your sacred space, your home.

What You Need:
8-ounce glass spray bottle
1/2 cup distilled water
20 drops essential oil
Try these essential oils on their own: Citrus Bliss Blend, Lavender, Peppermint, or even Lemon or Lemongrass.

Directions:
Combine the distilled water and your choice of essential oil into a glass spray bottle. You can use more or less essential oil depending on how strong you want the aroma. Make sure you shake the bottle prior to each use.
Try freshening up your furniture, carpets, car, or bathroom with a couple of spritzes of your new essential oil air freshener.

Mom-inspired DIY Body Butter

1/9/2019

Mothers are known the world over as women of many skills. Even so, there is one elusive ability that commonly escapes them: the skill of self-care. That’s where the rest of us come in! As we take some extra time this month to honor the special role mothers play in the lives of their children, let’s also consider how we can encourage these remarkable women in their pursuits of health and wholeness. Because if mom feels healthier, everyone else feels healthier, too!
For this month’s featured DIY recipe, we’ll create a luscious whipped body butter that will leave skin feeling soft, moisturized, and pampered for days. A combination of butters and oils creates a perfect base for your essential oils of choice. While this recipe uses Grapefruit and Wild Orange, feel free to use your knowledge of Mom’s favorite scents to create something customized just for her. For example, if she needs some serious relaxation (as most moms do), you might include Lavender.
You’ll need:
½ cup shea butter
½ cup cocoa butter
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
15 drops dōTERRA Grapefruit essential oil
15 drops dōTERRA Wild Orange essential oil

How-to:
  1. Measure all butters and oils in glass jar.
  2. Fill a large skillet/saucepan with one to one-and-a-half inches of water. Bring to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, add the glass jar to the center of the saucepan to melt and combine ingredients.
  4. Stir every few minutes until the ingredients are melted and combined (10–15 minutes). Tip: Use a popsicle stick to stir for easy cleanup.
  5. Once everything is melted, remove from heat and let sit 5–10 minutes. Add desired essential oils.
  6. Once essential oils are added, let rest in a cool place (such as the refrigerator) until set.
  7. Once chilled, remove from refrigerator. With a stand or hand mixer, start on low and slowly turn the speed higher until the lotion becomes light and fluffy (around 3–5 minutes).
Store mixture in a glass jar and keep in a cool place. If needed, re-fluff the body butter by whipping it back up to desired consistency with a hand mixer.
Fluffy, smooth, luxurious, and made just for Mom with her favorite dōTERRA scents in mind. This sounds like not only a Mother’s Day win, but an everyday win. Bonus points for kids who offer a foot massage along with the body butter! Here’s to you, Mom.
